EACR-funded EMBO Workshop on Laboratory Leadership

We’re pleased to offer 16 fully-funded places to eligible EACR members at an EACR-funded three-day online training workshop facilitated by EMBO, a trusted leader in scientific publishing, communication and leadership training. This intensive workshop, aiming to nurture the next generation of laboratory leaders in cancer research, is designed for junior Principal Investigators with up to 5 years' experience or Postdoctoral Researchers on the path to leading their own research groups.

Throughout the workshop, 16 EACR members will explore crucial aspects of effective leadership, from understanding the roles and dynamics within their teams to honing communication and conflict resolution skills. Led by experts and utilising highly interactive seminar-style sessions, participants will gain practical insights and tools to enhance their leadership capabilities. 

Only one person per lab will be awarded a place, but we strongly encourage participants to share the workshop learning and materials with their colleagues, to maximise its wide-reaching benefits.

Eligibility

You must be an EACR member, and you must be either:

• A junior Principal Investigator with no more than 5 years’ experience as a team leader. You must be lead researcher on a grant and be leading and managing a team of research staff on that project.

or

• A Postdoctoral Researcher on the way to becoming a Principal Investigator who has already secured independent funding intended to start your own research group.

The workshop will be delivered virtually via Zoom. Each participant will need their own: 

• Desktop or laptop computer (not phone or tablet)
• Web camera and microphone. Plus headphones (if possible)
• Quiet place from which to attend with reliable internet (min. 5 Gbps download and 1 Gbps upload speeds)

• Complete each section of the online form. After clicking 'Save and submit' you will be able to view and edit your application using this link at any time until the deadline.

• Application deadline: 23:59 CEST on 24 July 2025. IMPORTANT: Please note that if we receive a very high number of applications we may close the call before this date, so make sure that you send your application as soon as it's ready.
• You can expect to hear the result of evaluation by 13 August 2025.

Evaluation

All applications will be evaluated fully. The Evaluation Committee will review applications and select participants based on the statement of motivation and diversity.
